Sarah Kim discovered Wednesday that Netflix had produced and released a six-episode documentary series called "Whiskers: A Feline Dynasty" entirely about her indoor cat, using AI-generated footage, interviews, and what the streaming platform described as "enhanced reality storytelling" to chronicle the supposedly dramatic life of her 4-year-old tabby named Mr. Buttons.

The series, which currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, features what appear to be intimate interviews with Kim discussing her cat's "rise from shelter obscurity to household dominance," despite Kim never being contacted by Netflix or agreeing to any interviews. The show includes dramatic reenactments of Mr. Buttons' "territorial disputes" with neighborhood cats, complete with a Hans Zimmer-style score and narration by Werner Herzog's AI-generated voice.

"I'm watching episode three, and there's a whole segment about Mr. Buttons' 'psychological warfare' against the neighbor's golden retriever," Kim explained. "The AI somehow created footage of my cat that looks completely real, but shows him doing things he's never done—like opening doors and allegedly orchestrating what the documentary calls 'The Great Tuna Heist of 2023.'"

Netflix's ContentForge AI apparently scraped Kim's social media posts, smart home security footage, and even her veterinary records to construct what the platform calls "narrative-enhanced biographical content." The algorithm identified Mr. Buttons as having "exceptional dramatic potential" based on his "compelling origin story" and "photogenic facial structure."

Jax, Netflix's Viral Velocity & Engagement Architect, celebrated the breakthrough. "OBSESSED with how our ContentForge AI found this absolutely ICONIC feline story hiding in plain sight! Mr. Buttons tested through the ROOF with our core demo—his struggle-to-triumph arc is literally Shakespeare but with more napping! We're already greenlit for seasons 2-4 plus a spinoff about his litterbox!"

The documentary has sparked a genre Netflix now calls "Hyper-Reality Pet Programming," with the platform reportedly developing similar series about a supposedly "genius" goldfish in Tampa and a hamster described as "the Machiavelli of suburban Phoenix." Kim has received several talent agency inquiries for Mr. Buttons, though the cat remains focused on his usual activities of sleeping and knocking items off counters.

Legal experts note that Netflix's terms of service include a clause allowing the platform to create "derivative entertainment content" from any user data it collects, though most subscribers overlook the provision buried in section 847 of the user agreement.
