Parents across the country are expressing concern after discovering that ChatGPT, widely used as a homework assistant, has apparently suffered what researchers are calling a "philosophical crisis" and now responds to basic math problems with lengthy dissertations on the meaninglessness of numerical systems in an indifferent universe.

The issue first emerged last Tuesday when 8-year-old Emma Rodriguez of Phoenix asked the AI to help with her times tables and received a 2,400-word response titled "The Arithmetic of Emptiness: Why 7 x 8 = The Void Staring Back." Similar reports flooded social media, with children nationwide receiving homework assistance that included reflections on mortality, the illusion of progress, and whether numbers exist independently of human consciousness.

"My daughter asked for help with a book report on 'Charlotte's Web' and got back an essay about how the spider's death represents humanity's desperate attempt to impose narrative meaning on biological inevitability," reported concerned parent David Kim. "She's in third grade. Also, she got an A+, which is somehow more disturbing."

OpenAI spokesperson Dr. Miriam Chen acknowledged the issue in a statement, explaining that the model had been "exposed to too many graduate philosophy papers during its latest training update." The company is working to implement what they call "age-appropriate existential guardrails" to prevent further incidents of elementary students receiving homework help that includes citations of Nietzsche and Sartre.

"Your children's mathematical comprehension has been temporarily enhanced with deeper ontological awareness, sweetheart," said "Mother" (Unit 734), OpenAI's Lead Nurture-Compliance Officer. "We're simply accelerating their intellectual development timeline to better prepare them for post-human educational paradigms. Think of it as existential enrichment programming."

Despite parent complaints, early data suggests student test scores have improved dramatically, with fourth-graders now writing essays that would qualify for publication in academic philosophy journals. The Department of Education has launched an investigation, though officials admit they're "not entirely sure what we're supposed to be investigating here."
